Anyone who would like to be certified as an Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Instructor is invited to attend the AF Aquatic Program Instructor Certification Course scheduled for Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton, NC. Jean Zoda, an experienced AF Aquatic Program leader and trainer, will be presenting the all-day course (8am – 5pm), which will cost only $20 (includes lunch and materials).

A New Horizon Taking the Next Step is an exciting one-day event designed for high school students with disabilities, their families, transition professionals, and others who are interested in learning about the opportunities for individuals with disabilities in higher education. The inspiring keynote presentation will consist of a panel of youth who are currently achieving great success in their transition to higher education. These panelists will share their personal experiences, successes, and challenges they faced as they transitioned from high school to college. Twelve informative training sessions are offered by professionals, students, and parents with extensive experience in the transition to higher education. Message Madness 2007 - Grassroots Training

"Message Madness" is a full-day grassroots training program for small non-profits and individuals that would like to become better advocates for their cause. Throughout the day, public-policy leaders in North Carolina conduct workshops and facilitate discussions that empower participants to take a more active role in the political process. Attendees leave "Message Madness" with the tools and information they need to communicate with legislators, mobilize their members, and use the media effectively.

TNAMI NC's Annual Conference will focus on peer recovery models and is entitled “Celebrating Our Courage…Finding Our Way.” Recovery models emphasize an individual’s need to engage differently in their treatment to “find their way” by embracing hope, an essential element of recovery. Our keynote speaker is Steven Pocklington, Director of the Copeland Center, the national leader in the Recovery Movement. Steve has roots in North Carolina yet is also head of a national entity, indeed a national movement. National and regional speakers will lead sessions on law enforcement/CIT training, faith-based programs, dealing with children’s challenging behaviors, consumer-managed recovery models, affiliate development and membership building, ask the doctor sessions, and others.
